The New iPhone Lineup in One Sentence

Apple held its “Surprise and Shine” event on 9 September 2026 and did something it has not done in years. It skipped the base model. There is no iPhone 18 this autumn. What launched is the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, and the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable, at $1,999. The cheaper iPhone 18 and 18e are expected in spring 2027.

The two Pro models go on pre-order from 12 September and reach shops on 18 September in more than 65 countries. The Duo arrives later, with pre-orders from 16 October and availability from 23 October.

Every price in this article is taken directly from Apple’s own regional online stores, not from resellers or estimates. Currency conversions use the European Central Bank reference rate on 10 September 2026, and every table notes whether local tax is included.

iPhone 18 Pro Price Comparison in Five Currencies

The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3 inch display and starts at 256GB. There are four storage sizes. Here is what Apple charges in each market.

StorageUnited StatesCanadaEurozoneUnited KingdomIndia
256GB$1,199C$1,749€1,449£1,199₹1,64,900

2TB$2,399C$3,549€2,949£2,399₹3,14,900

Notice that the pound and dollar numbers are identical on paper. That is a coincidence of Apple’s pricing convention rather than a real equivalence. A pound is worth considerably more than a dollar, so a British buyer is paying substantially more in real terms. The next section puts every price on the same footing.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Price Comparison in Five Currencies

The Pro Max has the larger 6.9 inch display and the longer battery. It costs $100 more than the Pro at every tier in the United States, and the gap widens elsewhere.

iPhone Duo Price Comparison in Five Currencies

The foldable is the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold. It opens from a 5.4 inch outer screen into a 7.6 inch inner display, and the pricing reflects the new hinge and dual display engineering.

Where the New iPhone Is Cheapest and Most Expensive

Comparing sticker prices across currencies tells you very little on its own. Two adjustments are needed to make it a fair comparison.

First, convert everything to one currency. Second, account for tax. The American price on Apple’s website excludes sales tax, which is added at checkout and varies by state. The European, British and Indian prices all include tax already, at 19 percent VAT in Germany, 20 percent VAT in the United Kingdom and 18 percent GST in India. Canadian prices exclude provincial and federal sales tax, like the United States.

Here is the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB in US dollars, both as advertised and with local tax removed so the comparison is like for like.

Swipe the table sideways to see all five currencies.

MarketLocal priceIn USD as advertisedIn USD, tax removedPremium over US
United States$1,199$1,199$1,199Baseline
CanadaC$1,749$1,266$1,2666% higher
United Kingdom£1,199$1,621$1,35113% higher
Eurozone€1,449$1,683$1,41418% higher
India₹1,64,900$1,728$1,46422% higher

So the ranking is clear and consistent. The United States is the cheapest place to buy a new iPhone. Canada is next and surprisingly close. The United Kingdom and the Eurozone sit in the middle. India is the most expensive of the five markets, and that holds on every model and every storage size.

On the iPhone Duo the Indian gap is wider still. After removing GST, the Duo costs the equivalent of $2,663 in India against $1,999 in the United States, a premium of 33 percent.

Why India Pays More for the iPhone 18 Pro

Three forces stack on top of each other, and they explain almost the entire difference.

  • GST at 18 percent, built into the shelf priceIndian retail prices are quoted inclusive of tax. The American price is not. That single convention accounts for a large share of the apparent gap before anything else is considered.
  • Import duty on components and finished unitsEven with assembly now happening in India for several models, duty on imported components and on the higher end units shipped in feeds directly into the final price.
  • Currency movement since last year’s pricingThe rupee has weakened against the dollar over the past year. Apple sets rupee prices in advance for the whole cycle, so it builds in a cushion rather than repricing mid year.
  • A year on year increase of ₹30,000The iPhone 17 Pro started at ₹1,34,900. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,64,900. That is a larger jump than the $100 increase in the United States, which suggests a deliberate repricing rather than pure currency drift.

The practical takeaway for an Indian buyer is that the sticker price is not the whole story. Apple India lists No Cost EMI and instant cashback on eligible cards at checkout, and those offers meaningfully change the effective cost. Trade in values on an older iPhone are also stronger in India than most buyers assume. Both are worth checking before deciding the phone is out of reach.

What Is Actually New in the iPhone 18 Pro

Price aside, this is a more substantial update than the last two cycles. Four things stand out.

Silicon

The A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process

A 6 core CPU, a 7 core GPU with neural accelerators, and a dual 16 core Neural Engine with twice the compute of the previous generation, per Apple’s published specifications. Memory bandwidth is up 50 percent, which is what on device AI actually needs.

Camera

A variable aperture on the main camera

The 48MP Fusion main camera physically changes aperture between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0. Around 50 percent better low light performance at the widest setting, and real depth of field control rather than a software blur.

Battery

Up to 45 hours of video on the Pro Max

Roughly 30 hours of typical use per charge, and up to 50 percent charge in about 15 minutes with a compatible adapter. Battery life is the most noticeable day to day upgrade for most people.

Design

A smaller Dynamic Island and tougher glass

The Dynamic Island shrinks and now holds up to three Live Activities at once. Ceramic Shield 2 on the front is rated at three times the scratch resistance of the iPhone 16 Pro. Four finishes: Burgundy, Glacier, Silver and Black.

The iPhone Duo Explained

The Duo is the first genuinely new iPhone shape since the iPhone X. It folds like a book. Closed, you use a 5.4 inch outer screen like a normal, slightly narrow phone. Open, you get a 7.6 inch display that Apple says is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The engineering details that matter: a Grade 5 titanium frame, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a dual battery system rated up to 31 hours of video on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer one, according to Apple’s Duo specifications. There is a 48MP dual Fusion camera on the back, a 12MP Center Stage camera on the front, and an under display FaceTime camera on the inner screen so nothing interrupts the folding surface.

iOS 27 has been reworked for it, with Split View multitasking across both halves and new features built around the form factor, including Duo Preview which lets the person you are photographing see themselves on the outer screen.

Whether it is worth $1,999, or ₹2,99,900 in India, depends entirely on whether a tablet sized screen in your pocket changes how you work. For most people the answer is no, and the iPhone 18 Pro is the better purchase. For anyone who currently carries both a phone and an iPad Mini, the maths is different.

Which New iPhone Should You Buy

  • Buy the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB if you want the best valueIt has the same chip, the same main camera and the same variable aperture as the Pro Max. You give up screen size and some battery life. For most people that is the right trade.
  • Buy the Pro Max only if battery life is the deciding factorThe extra $100, or ₹15,000, buys a bigger screen and the longest battery Apple ships. If you travel constantly or shoot video all day, it earns its place. Otherwise it does not.
  • Skip the 1TB and 2TB tiers unless you shoot ProResThe jump from 256GB to 2TB costs $1,200 in the United States and ₹1,50,000 in India. Cloud storage is far cheaper. Only professional video work genuinely needs it on the device.
  • Wait until spring 2027 if you want a cheaper iPhoneThere is no iPhone 18 base model this year. The affordable models are expected in spring 2027. If the Pro price is beyond what you want to spend, waiting six months is a reasonable plan.

What This Means for Businesses Buying Phones

If you buy devices for a team rather than for yourself, the calculation is different and a few things are worth thinking through before you place an order.

The first is that the entry price of a current generation iPhone has moved up meaningfully this year. A ten person team on iPhone 18 Pro at 256GB is a ₹16,49,000 line item in India before GST input credit. Last year the same team would have cost ₹13,49,000. That is a real budget change, and it is worth deciding consciously rather than repeating last year’s policy.

The second is that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 remain on sale and both run iOS 27. For staff who need a reliable work phone rather than the best camera Apple makes, the previous generation is now the sensible corporate default and the saving is substantial across a fleet.

The third is that GST input credit changes the real cost for a registered business in India in a way it does not for a consumer. Buying through the business, on a proper GST invoice, recovers the 18 percent that a personal buyer simply pays. On a ten device order that is roughly ₹2,50,000 back. Many small businesses still buy phones on a personal card and lose it.
